Tonight I actually sat down at my kitchen table, turned off Ricky Royal’s playthrough of the Halls of Hegra and set up my scenario for The Lord of the Rings LCG. I have already built my decks according to the Fellowship of the Ring guide, so I have a Gandalf, Eowyn, and Thodred deck, and a hobbit deck of Sam, Merry, and Pippin.
It took a long time to get through the first round as I was constantly checking the rulebook to make sure I was correctly doing the action windows. I’m not even sure I was so I will watch Colin’s playthrough of A Shadow of the Past again to make sure I’m doing it right.
Also TheGameLocker’s video on the rules is well worth a watch. It’s a shame he’s not posting videos anymore.
Anyway, I managed to make my way through the first round, but it was only after playing part-way through round two that I realised I had not been resolving the hide effects on the Black Rider cards.
This is obviously a massive oversight as the main beats of the start of the book and this scenario are about avoiding the Black Riders on the road.
It was too much effort to unwind the decisions I had made (and it was getting late) so I just tabled the game and I’ll have another go a different evening.
But, the point is, I did make an attempt to play a game I own rather than just buying it, sleeving it, and watching other people play.
So, there you go, non-existent reader, I get points for effort. Well done me.
